Where are they now?
Erin Cadwalader, PhD
Erin Cadwalader, PhD, is currently the Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Entomological Society of America (ESA). In this role she leads the Society’s advocacy efforts, manages the ESA sections and several member-led committees, develops initiatives to create new and sustainable revenue streams for ESA, and oversees the certification programs. She is a key liaison between ESA and many allied groups and leads the recently established Vector-Borne Disease Network. While at Lewis-Burke from May 2014 to November 2019, Dr. Cadwalader leveraged her biological research expertise and experience in government relations to offer Lewis-Burke clients unique insight on how to most effectively advance their research objectives in the areas of biomedical research, neurobiology, and social science.
Erica Froyd
Erica Froyd is the Senior Director for Advocacy and Engagement at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Erica leads advocacy efforts for more than 80 organizations focused on a variety of issues including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), bioterrorism, public health, and diversity in the health professions. At Lewis-Burke from April 2010 to December 2018, Erica guided the interests of clients in the areas of biomedical research, federal research policy, and health care with a particular focus on the NIH and other agencies within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Ben Preis
During his time at Lewis-Burke Associates, Ben Preis’s portfolio included the federal Smart Cities initiative, which led him to realize his interest in urban policy and development merited further exploration. Following his time at Lewis-Burke from June 2015 to August 2017 Ben to pursue graduate work in Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is now a doctoral student. Today, his research examines regional wealth inequality between and within city-regions. Building off his experiences tracking federal policy, he has done extensive work on federal and local housing policy, urban cybersecurity, small business development, and quantitative measures of gentrification.
Jason Gallagher
While at Lewis-Burke Associates, Jason Gallagher's portfolio focused on transportation, environmental, and agricultural policy across a breadth of higher education and scientific society clients. It was during this time that Jason developed the relationship management skills and foundational knowledge of the higher education landscape required to take the next step in his career. Following his time at Lewis-Burke from January 2016 to August 2019, Jason transitioned to an Account Management position at 160over90, a premier marketing and advertising agency specializing in higher education marketing and consumer branding. Working with some of the same universities as during his time in Washington, Jason now helps these institutions create a public facing brand that feels true to the essence of the school, its faculty, and its students.
Alison Evans
While at Lewis-Burke Associates, Alison Evan's portfolio focused on defense, health, and smart cities policy. Alison developed expertise in working with early career faculty as they began applying for federal grants and served university clients as they sought to expand their research portfolio across the federal research enterprise. During her time at Lewis-Burke Associates, Alison realized the importance of policy making at the local level, especially through the growing smart city movement, and the role universities can play in local economic development. In 2019, Alison pursued her passion for local policy making by beginning her Masters of City and Regional Planning at Georgia Tech. Alison is focused on furthering her knowledge of policy tools and financial mechanisms the public sector can leverage to attract private sector investment to build equitable communities. Alison continues to be driven by a desire to serve others and create communities with a high quality of life for all residents.
Megan McCabe
Meghan McCabe worked at Lewis-Burke for several years with a portfolio that included the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of Agriculture. Following her time with LBA in DC, she returned to beloved home state of Arizona. Meghan worked at a boutique lobbying firm in Arizona serving corporate clients with their state government relations agenda. Now, she is the Deputy Director of Government Relations for the Arizona Medical Association.

Ashley Tate
Ashley Tate served as Lewis-Burke’s office manager for 8 years supporting Lewis-Burke’s growth as well as the most recent office move to 440 First street NW. Ashley is now an administrative assistant for Wells Fargo legal department. Ashley also recently completed her Associate in Arts (AA) degree in general studies with a Human resources management certificate from Prince Georges Community College. In addition, Ashely has taken on the role of full-time teacher as her son has started kindergarten on-line!
Shakirah Hill
During her time at Lewis-Burke Associates, Shakirah Hill Taylor worked as the office receptionist while pursuing her master's degree at Georgetown University. Since moving on from the firm, Shakirah has served as an account director at Blue State where she led key digital advocacy campaigns for NAACP, the United States Olympic Committee, and the Communication Workers Association; she also led the national digital strategy for Communities In Schools. Shakirah is currently a Vice President at Metropolitan Group a strategic communication and creative services agency focused on creating sustainable change for nonprofits, foundations, and government agencies.
Julie Rose
For almost a decade at Lewis-Burke, Julie Rose handled healthcare and research issues impacting academic medical centers and organizational clients. She joined Lewis-Burke after serving as a Health Policy Advisor and Education Legislative Assistant for the U.S. Senate. Following her tenure at Lewis-Burke, Mrs. Rose relocated to North Carolina to serve as the Director of Government Relations for Duke Health, where she handles health policy issues with an emphasis on biomedical research funding, public health programs, and health workforce. At Duke, Mrs. Rose works with some of the top healthcare, and medical and nursing education programs in the country.
